ROOMS

HOW SOPHISTICATED, how elegant, how moody and dramatic are these plummy-
purply hues in this dining room? It’s no surprise these rich, warm, reddish tones
are popular in dining areas, because they’re considered stimulating – inspiring
conversation (no dull dinner parties surrounded by these colours). Apparently
reddish colours also increase the appetite, so provide plenty of food for
your guests! As they up the energy and excitement levels (they’re said to increase
the heart rate) these tones are also an ideal choice for other social areas in the home
where people congregate, such as the living room. And if you want to make a fabulous
first impression, paint your entryway in more purply shades, for the colour is
often associated with royalty – so suggesting wealth and luxury. How divine. R
