VINTAGE PROCESS Kirsten’s furniture is mainly vintage – many
pieces are French mixed with a few Danish mid-century items,
which Kirsten loves for their simple and classic designs. Inspiration
for the home comes through her work with colours and forms,
but also just from walking around in New York’s old textile area.
“I always fi nd something that inspires me, whether for my home
or for my make-up. I’m very interested in the mix of art, fashion,
design and nature, and I think that can be felt here in my home,”
Kirsten says. “I get inspired by books and magazines, and always
make moodboards of various clippings, colour swatches and
fabric samples.” It’s a design process that has served Kirsten
well, as her interior demonstrates. She’s created a home that tells
her story, a character-fi lled cocoon where she can feel nurtured
and inspired. “If the energy is right and the room is beautiful –
either because of gorgeous furniture or the color schemes and
art – then I’m happy just being at home. I love being at home.” R

Patina perfection Natural light fl oods into Kirsten’s apartment, highlighting
the beautiful patinas of her vintage furniture. And so, to bed The bed is a
mattress placed on a bed frame without the legs, and is piled up with blankets
and pillows in crushed linen and velvet. Antique metal lamps are displayed
without shades. The leaf in the window is from Brazil – a natural sculpture. A
