“We were very careful about taking that photograph. First
of all it had to be our idea of the ideal kangaroo paw, a
kangaroo paw flower that conveyed the essence of what
is wonderful about a kangaroo paw flower, something that
showed it off. The buds aren’t too clustered together. It’s
nicely fanned out, and you can see all the details, from the
smallest buds, right out to the fully developed flower, and
the flower that actually displays the claws, which is the
reason behind the name of the kangaroo ‘paw’. The angle
we took it at was very important because we wanted to
be able to show those lovely buds, and how they fan out,
and to show as well the ferns, and the colour,” says Kaisa
Breeden.
