Computer Arts - UK (2019-11)

(Antfer) #1
Aspiring to be “the design version of a three-
Michelin-starred restaurant” according
to founder Tony Brook, Spin’s goal is to
surprise, delight, break boundaries, cut
through and make a difference. It’s clearly
paying dividends, with a dramatic rise of 17
places in this year’s UK Studio Rankings.

Are you happy to make this year’s Top 10?
We are totally thrilled, and would like to
offer a huge debt of thanks to everyone that
nominated us. It gives us a huge boost.

What are your highlights from 2019?
The year was a complete blur, but working
for MUBI, Material Futures MA (UAL),
the fabulous Neri Oxman and Wallpaper*,
Apple and a new Dan Pearson website all
stand out. Also we designed and published
(through Unit Editions) a book on Universal
Everything. And not forgetting (how could
we) the honour of making a Computer Arts
cover. I must mention the studio visit to
Buenos Aires, through kind invitation of The
British Council, UNSAM and Proa. We had an
exhibition, workshops and lectures, it was an
unforgettable experience.

And what’s next?
We’ve been working on the identity for AIR
studios, which is super exciting. A spanking
new website for Matthew Hilton should be
finished soon, and we’ve been working on a
book with Ian Anderson about The Designers
Republic. There are a lot of other things we
can’t talk about at this point – watch this space

  • and we also have some self-initiated projects
in the pipeline. The next 12 months is going to
be massive for us. Onwards and upwards.
