GETTING STARTED
By Mike Sharpe
The Too Good to Hide project came about off the
back of our surreal short Mondegreen. Creative
agency Cubo had seen it and approached us
to create a ‘House of Ballentine’s’ because
Mondegreen was close in the look and feel to
what it wanted to create for the client.
We were asked to craft a story of revelation,
which would be the focus of a landmark
campaign for the global whisky brand. It needed
to tell the story of three signature single malts
that are part of the Ballentine’s blend, but are
now being released as individual products.
Aimed primarily at the Asian market, the film
required quite a white backdrop to chime
with Ballentine’s branding, and to incorporate
a number of details illustrating the history
of the brand.
Beyond the white walls of the brand itself,
we were asked to create three colourful
single malt ‘worlds’ for Miltonduff, Glenburgie
and Glentauchers, with their own histories,
environments and flavour notes. Each needed to
operate as a short film on its own, and as part of
the overall Too Good to Hide production.
The creative was brilliantly ambitious, but
not practically achievable in live action, so it
was agreed we would use 3D. Because we’re

PROJECT FACTFILE
BRIEF: Ballantine’s wanted to create a film telling the story of the House of
Ballantine’s, revealing some of the secrets behind this world-leading whisky
blend. Three signature single malts that are used in the Ballantine’s blend –
Miltonduff, Glenburgie and Glentauchers – are being released as standalone
products, and the aim was to give each a distinct space with its own history,
environment and visual flavour notes for viewers to discover.
