TRUE CASE STORIES OF
CHILDREN NOW IN CARE
;A boy, aged three, who didn’t know
his own name, had never slept in a
bed, but under a chair where it was
safe, and was only fed occasionally.
;A four-year-old who was the sole
carer for her one-year-old brother.
;Four young siblings locked out
and forced to sleep under the
house, who ate dog food when
they were hungry.
;Two sisters who had to drink from
the gutter when they were thirsty.
Who is the Pyjama Foundation?
Alarmed at the poor literacy and
numeracy levels of children in care
- they have the lowest educational
outcomes nationally – and how this
leads to a lifetime of disadvantage,
Bronwyn Sheehan founded The
Pyjama Foundation in 2004, to make
a positive impact on the lives of our
community’s most vulnerable children.
Through the Love Of Learning
program, volunteers called Pyjama
Angels are matched with a child
in care and spend time with them
once a week, every week, focusing
on learning-based activities. The
Angels read books aloud with their
child, play educational games and
help with the child’s homework.
By improving the child’s learning
skills, The Pyjama Foundation is
making a positive, life-long impact
on their futures.
