AT THE MOVIES
What can you tell us about the
character you play, Katarina?
“She’s got this real big-town girl thing
about her but she quickly softens a lot
as she really gets to know people in
the Bay. She’s got two sides to her; she
sort of battles herself sometimes which
makes her really fun to play.”
Your career kicked off after you
won DOLLY Model Search when
you were 14. What memories
do you have of this time?
“Well, I was a really shy and awkward
teenager so when I got into the fi nals
and won, it served me in a way where
I had to come out of my shell and be
more confi dent. It really helped me
grow in a positive way.”
What are some highlights from
your many years as a model?
“There was a stage where I was a
runway model and I remember the
buzz and the butterfl ies before going
out into that atmosphere and the
adrenalin. Plus, working with amazing
photographers. It’s been a journey!”
What’s something we’d be
surprised to hear about you?
“I’m a tomboy. You’ll usually fi nd me
in cut-off denim shorts with Converses
and a slouchy T-shirt, my hair in a bun,
no make-up. And I will probably be
riding skateboards!”
She won the DOLLY Model
Search in 1998, which led
to a successful modelling
career. Now, Pia Miller has
joined the Home And Away
family as city girl Katarina.
The Last Five
Years and Pitch
Perfect 2 are out
later this year.
Home And Away airs weeknights
at 7pm on Channel Seven.
ANNA KENDRICK
1985: Anna is born in Portland, US,
and releases a loud cry. Her parents
recognise that she has a killer set of
lungs. A star is (literally) born.
1998: At 12 years old, she receives
a Tony Award nomination for her work
in the Broadway musical High Society.
2003: Makes her film debut in Camp,
which is about a songwriter who works
at a summer musical theatre program.
Hmm, we can see a trend forming...
2008: Lands a role in the biggest thing
to hit the screens (well, since Harry Potter
anyway): Twilight. The world learns her
name and they’re not going to forget it.
2012: Nabs the
lead in Pitch Perfect.
Girl can sing. Girl
can act. Girl is
hilarious. We’re
crushing. HARD.
2014: We discover that
Anna is set to star (and
sing her heart out) in
Into The Woods. She’s
definitely the coolest
version of Cinderella
we ever did see.
2015: Totally nails the role of
Cathy in the flick The Last Five Years.
And naturally, she sings about the highs
and lows of her relationship. Now, we’ll
wait for Anna’s debut album (hopefully)
and of course Pitch Perfect 2 in May!
KINGSMAN:
THE SECRET SERVICE
Out: Februar y 5
Directed by the man behind big flicks
like X-Men: First Class, a super-secret
spy organisation recruits a street kid
into the agency’s ultra-competitive
training program. But, as luck would
have it, he’s recruited just as a global
threat emerges from a tech genius.
SEE IT: If you loved Spy Kids back in
the day. It’s got action, style and LOLs.
IN THE HEART OF THE SEA
Out: March 19
Based on true events in 1820, a whaling
ship is destroyed by a whale. This tale
went on to inspire the classic novel
Moby-Dick, which only told half the
story. Starring Chris Hemsworth, this
film reveals the scary aftermath where
the crew are stranded at sea for 90
days, thousands of miles from home.
SEE IT: You love epic tales like Titanic
and are a Hemsworth fan (who isn’t?).
