CAPTAIN TOAD: TREASURE
TRACKER Wii U, $59

THE GAME: Captain Toad sets
off on his own adventure for the
very first time, skipping through tricky,
enemy-infested, maze-like stages to
find hidden gems and gold stars,
with plenty to discover along the way.

THE VERDICT: Poor Toad. Too often
he is the unsung hero of Nintendo
games – until now, that is. In Captain
Toad: Treasure Tracker, this cute little
mushroom is running the show. Guide
him through a virtual storybook of
puzzles and platform levels where
you bounce, climb, jump and run
to collect all the stars. The game
is so cute you won’t stop smiling.

TETRIS ULTIMATE
PS Vita, $29

THE GAME: Tetris is a classic video
game where you flip falling blocks so
they fit together. If you’re wondering
what more you can really do to Tetris
the answer is apparently not much,
but Tetris is addictive just as it is.

THE VERDICT: Look, I’ll be honest,
it’s probably not the ULTIMATE Tetris
as the name implies, however it looks
so much better on the PS Vita than
it did on Game Boy years ago. Few
games are as universally recognised
and understood as this Russian puzzle
game. It’s fun, the right dose of a
challenge and a month on I am still
dreaming about lining up those blocks.

JUST DANCE 2015
Wii U, $59

THE GAME: Want to get a taste of
being Ariana’s back-up dancer? This
game is the perfect way to let loose
with friends and family by dancing to
more than 40 hits, such as Pharrell’s
“Happy” and K-Pez’s “Dark Horse”.

THE VERDICT: We played this in the
office with the DOLLY team on Wii U,
where you hold the controller while
you mimic the moves, and it was
hilarious. When the word nerds in
the writing and subbing departments
came together as 5SOS to do “She
Looks So Perfect” it was almost like
being at the concert. Almost. Push
back the couch and laugh for hours.
TIP: Avoid “Bang Bang” if Nana is in
the room; there’s a lot of butt-shaking.

TIP: The blocks fall faster as the tower
grows so try to do those lines quickly.

TIP: Pick up the cherries to clone your
character and collect coins andgems.

THREE GAMES WE CAN'T WAIT TO TRY IN 2015

Releasing on: Wii U
Sooooo cute! Seriously, guys, this is the most adorable
thing Nintendo has done. Yoshi is still gobbling down
baddies, throwing eggs and flutter-jumping around
platforms, but this time, everything is covered in
a cuddly crocheted art style. Great news – you can
play with a pal as the game sports multiple Yoshis.

Releasing on: Wii U
It’s kind of a year for Wii U to show us what it’s
got!So how does Nintendo tackle a first person
shooter? By swapping bullets for colourful ink and
squids! Splatoon pits two teams against each other,
each side aiming to cover the arena in its team’s
colour. You don’t need to spray your opponents,
even though it does daze them. Happy painting!

Releasing on: PC, Xbox 360,
Xbox One, PS3, PS4
The preview says Lara is in a weird
mental state after her time on the
island. Will she have nightmares about
the horrific things she had to do to
survive and, more importantly, will we
get to play through those moments?!
Just how that goes with raiding tombs
I don’t know, but I’m excited to find out!

Rise of the Tomb Raider, $98

Yoshi’s Woolly
World, $7

Splatoon, $79
