F

or the past couple of months, I’ve
been giving out lots of advice about
dating, new relationships, figuring
out signals and ‘playing it right’, but
I’ve just had this massive revelation. The
revelation came to me as I was sitting
around with my mate discussing cricket,
the beautiful game that it is, and I realised
what the best date would be for a guy.
Get ready for it... a sports date!
Now, bear with me. I’m not saying
you have to be a professional athlete,
or even an overly sporty person. All you
need is a good sense of fun. As much as
a movie date can be great, if you really
want to appeal to your dude’s manly-man
side, planning a sports date is by far the
best way to go about it. Seriously, there
is nothing we love more than showing
off when it comes to the sporting realm.

#1 THE TENNIS DATE
Tennis is not only a lot of fun to play, it’s
also often referred to as ‘the social sport’
(corny, I know). It’s social because you
can still chat as you play – try doing that
while playing water polo. Tennis lets you

get both competitive and create a good
line of banter with each shot, and
hopefully you’ll get a good rally in there
too. If you’re stuck for an amazing date
idea, suggest this to the guy you like. To
keep the romance going strong, go grab
a cheeky milkshake or some gelato
afterwards to continue your convo.

#2 THE ROCK-CLIMBING DATE
Here’s one for the adventure sport fans,
or those of you who want to have a good
laugh at your boy being strapped into
a harness (yeah, the wedgies suck, but
we’ll get over it). The rock-climbing date
is a good one to suss out each other’s
sense of humour and love for adventure
because not many of us have a lot of
experience with a sport like this. Rock
climbing is challenging and lets you see
a few of each other’s crazy quirks, fears
and how pumped up you get when you
conquer that epic sideways rock!

#3 THE SURFING DATE
I’m a surfer and still to this day find it
very attractive when a girl wants to come

out in the water to catch a few morning
waves with me. Even if you don’t catch
any at all, a date in the ocean under
the Aussie sun is always awesome.
Or, if you’d prefer to leave it to the
pros ‘cos you fear the worst when it
comes to coordination, there’s always...

#4 THE SPECTATOR DATE
There are heaps of different sports you
can go and watch. Think of this one like
a movie, only better! The sport will keep
your guy entertained and he’ll think it
was pretty cool that you considered his
interests in planning a date. Plus, it’s
a good opportunity to impress him with
your knowledge of whatever sport you
are watching. Trust me, guys love when
a girl knows the rules of a game, and if
you don’t, we get to feel important (and
I guess a little smart) when we explain
them to you. Let the bonding begin!

So ladies, there you have it – my pick
of the best man-friendly dates out there.
Let me know what you think and how it
goes. Actually, you can thank me later. c
