Get Naked
Speaking of hippies, have you heard? Yoga teacher Rosie Rees is
touring the nation with Nude Yoga. It might sound a little out there,
but the practice is receiving a lot of positive feedback from students
who have learned to connect more deeply to themselves and with
their partners. This radical expression of asana allows students to
explore vulnerability, courage and connection. The three-hour workshops are
held for women only and couples. For women, the focus is on
overcoming fear, releasing insecurities and becoming comfortable in
your own skin. And for couples, the attention is on creating deep
connection, exploring vulnerability and sensuality. Rosie Rees is a
relationship and singles coach, Nude Yoga instructor, and founder of the Yoni
Pleasure Palace, an online store. Her yoga training is in Mysore Hatha
Yoga and Kundalini and her message is of liberation, freedom and body
love through ancient technologies and body awareness techniques.

Australia ranks

number one in the

world for ‘vegan’

searches

According to Google Trends,
Australians have the world’s
biggest appetite for learning about
veganism. An analysis of the past
12 months of searches from
around the globe shows Australia
has the highest percentage of
searches for the word ‘vegan’.
“It’s great to see Aussies ahead of
the curve when it comes to vegan
living,” says PETA Australia
campaign coordinator Claire
Fryer. “Whether it’s to protect
animals, our own health or the
health of our planet, going vegan
is the single most positive and
impactful choice we can make.”

At the risk of sounding like an old-school
prude, what will they think of next?
But really, we can appreciate the appeal
of Rage Yoga – the latest trend that
promises to leave students feeling
“Zen as f*Ck”. Canadian contortionist
Lindsay-Marie Istace at first found traditional
yoga practices intimidating and
“too serious”. As her love for
yoga grew, she studied more
lineages and trained with
popular yogi celeb Sadie Nardini. Now, as a teacher, she aims to increase the
appeal of the practice to the average Jo, and create “a safe space to deal with
negative emotions in a positive way”. How does this work, you ask? Rage Yoga
isn’t held in your traditional yoga studio, but the basement of a Calgary pub
where students are encouraged to rehydrate with beer, and the teacher can be
heard yelling out the odd “f-bomb” or innuendo. We’re not sure if this really fits
under the yoga umbrella, but we reckon it would go down a treat in Aus. For

Brewery Yoga

And on that note, it turns out that Brewery
Yoga is a thing now too. It’s been gaining
popularity in the US, with a number of
breweries holding yoga classes throughout
the states – and now Australia has caught
on. Camperdown yoga instructor Kate Houlah
Brewhouse Shala Yoga class in April. Students move through a beginner level
practice and are rewarded with a glass of their favourite craft beer at the end
of class, just as the pub is opening for lunch. See Brewhouse Shala Yoga on
eventbrite.com.au to see what the fuss is about. With a bit of Dutch courage,
we’re sure some of the arm balances we normally cringe at would be cinch.
