New yoga craze, blindfolded yoga, is sweeping the festival scene
and leaving yogis feeling a heightened sense of body awareness
as well as a humbling beginner’s mind around their practice.
We checked out professional photographer and yogi Pete
Longworth’sBlindfolded Yoga and the Art of Seeingworkshop at
the recent Spirit Festival in Mullumbimby and were pleasantly
surprised. Everything that we take for granted in our body
becomes something to be cherished in this practice. Simple
poses take us back to when we first started and our minds are
directed internally. Pete tells us that the workshop is the
“collision of my photographic work with my newfound passion
for yoga”. He says, “It is an immersive experience created to
expand sensory awareness.” Pete believes that “the true
resonance of the experience comes from realising that this
expanded awareness is available in all aspects of your life”
allowing participants to “discover a deep trust that opens
you up to exquisite new ways to look at yourself,
the world, and others.” The practice, ideal for
experienced yogis or beginners, involves
wearing a blindfold for most of the whole
class. Yogis say the blindfold experience
is good for balance, focus and
envisioning their practice in a
new way. To find out more,
