TOYOTA’S HiLux has cracked cumulative sales of half a million vehicles
in Australia. The 500,000 total has happened as HiLux leads the sales
charts in Australia so far this year.
Toyota’s Australian dealers have sold 12,883 4x4 and 4x2 HiLux
utes so far this year, making it the top-selling vehicle nameplate in the
country – 99 sales clear of Corolla in second place.
HiLux is also well placed to extend its remarkable run of 11
consecutive years as Australia’s best-selling four-wheel-drive vehicle.
While the first HiLux 4x2 landed here in 1971, 4x4 models arrived
in 1980 and quickly became the top seller. In the past decade, total
HiLux sales have averaged more than 39,000 vehicles a year, with 4x4
models accounting for almost two-thirds of total sales.
There are at least 16 different variants in the current range of Hilux
4x4 models.
