CAULDRONETTES

PREP + COOK TIME 30 MINUTES MAKES 24

3 sheets shortcrust pastry

30g butter

1 tablespoon plain flour

1¼ cups (310ml) milk

½ cup (60g) coarsely grated

cheddar cheese

½ cup frozen peas (125g), cooked,

drained

125g can corn kernels, drained,

rinsed

100g cabanossi, chopped finely

1 Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan.

Oil two 12−hole (1−tablespoon/20ml)

mini muffin pans.

2 Cut 24 x 7cm rounds from pastry;

press one round into each hole. Prick

pastry bases all over with fork place

small ball of scrunched foil into each

pastry case. Bake for 15 minutes or

until pastry is browned lightly.

3 Stand pastry cases in pans for

5 minutes; remove foil. Turn pastry

cases onto a wire rack to cool.

4 Melt butter in a small saucepan

add flour; cook stirring until mixture

bubbles and thickens. Gradually add

milk stirring until mixture boils

and thickens. Remove from heat;

stir in remaining ingredients. Cool

for 5 minutes.

5 Just before serving divide filling

among pastry cases.

small sheet black cardboard

1 sheet purple A4 paper

1 sheet black A4 paper

small butterfly paper fasteners

white pen

badge clip

1 Draw an 8cm diameter circle on

black cardboard; cut out. Trace a 6cm

circle on purple paper; cut out (cut

slight scallops into circle if you like).

2 Using picture as a guide draw

wings 8cm from tip to tip on black

paper; cut out. Attach bat wing to

purple circle using paper fasteners;

attach purple circle and bat wing to

black circle using the paper fasteners.

3 Draw on stars with the white pen

and add a suitable witchy name for

the school (see picture above).

4 Attach a clip to the cardboard circle.

1.25 litres (5 cups) chilled

blackcurrant fruit drink

1.25 litres (5 cups) chilled soda water

300g frozen mixed berries

1 Just before serving combine

ingredients in a serving bowl.

Authentic-looking plastic

pumpkins are available

from party shops, discount

stores, department stores

and garden supply stores.

Their orange and yellow

colours blend in well with

this theme. They make a

great party centrepiece.
