Incorporate pore-reducing products into your daily skincare regime.
When buying and trying, talk with the beauty consultant about
your routine and what will be best suited to your complexion.

Four to
the pore

  1. Regardless of
    what you do or
    the products you
    use, you can’t
    actually change
    the physical size
    of large pores. It’s
    just genetics and
    is often related
    to skin type. You
    can, however,
    stop them from
    becoming enlarged
    and make them
    look smaller.

  2. As you age,
    especially after 40,
    your skin’s natural
    exfoliation slows
    down, which can
    make pores seem
    larger. Look for
    products with
    AHAs, BHAs and
    retinoids (made
    from vitamin A
    derivatives) to give
    your complexion
    a boost.

  3. The condition
    of your skin and
    lifestyle play a
    part. For example,
    pores will be more
    noticeable if skin
    is dehydrated
    from using harsh
    cleansers, lack of
    hydration or sun
    damage. Protect,
    protect, protect!

  4. Sebum (skin
    oil) flows through
    pores. Problems
    start when oil
    glands produce an
    excess and it mixes
    with debris in the
    pores, like dead
    skin cells. This can
    clog pores, making
    it difficult for oil to
    flow freely, causing
    the pore to get
    bigger. Keep pores
    clear by cleansing
    thoroughly.

OK, so you’re doing all of the above, but you’d like to make
those pores look even less noticeable when you go out. These
pore-softening primers and skin treats are all up to the task.

  1. This leave-on exfoliant contains antioxidants and
salicylic acid (BHA) to clear pores, stimulate collagen
and reduce breakouts. It’s best for combination
and oily skin types. Resist Daily Pore-Refining
    Treatment With 2% BHA, $41, Paula’s Choice.

  2. A few drops can help make open pores look smaller.
The formula constricts the sides of the openings
to make them tighter without stripping out natural
oils. Pore Reduction Refining Tonic, $69, DMK.

  3. This serum is designed to improve the
skin’s bounce-back quality and visibly reduce the
appearance of pores, lines and wrinkles. Precision
    Lifting & Pore-Tightening Concentrate, $96, Kiehl’s.

  4. Always apply a non-greasy day cream with SPF
to keep your face hydrated, plumped up and protected
every day. Regenerist Advanced Anti-ageing Revitalising
Hydration Cream Moisturiser SPF15, $34.99, Olay.

  5. This primer increases the longevity of make-up and
appears to miraculously shrink pores and give skin a subtle
radiance. Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser, $15.95, Maybelline.

  6. Worn on its own or under make-up, this
cream hydrates skin while leaving a smooth matt
finish with fewer visible lines. Eternal Youth Insta-
Perfector Blur Cream, $29.95, Dr. LeWinn’s.

  7. For a natural-looking shine-free look, try this
water-based gel primer. It absorbs excess oil while
    its diamond powder has a soft-focus pore-blurring
effect. POREfessional Matte Rescue, $49, Benefit.

  8. It sounds too good to be true, but this little gem
works as a moisturiser, illuminator, anti-ager, pore refiner
and primer all-in-one! Plus, it’s free of nasty ingredients.
Face Cheat Moisturiser + Glow, $39.95, Cinch.

  9. Layered between skincare and make-up,
this lightweight cream is designed to make pores
less visible by slowing down sebum production. It
also uses plant extracts to visibly reduce pore size.
Skin Smoothing Pore Perfector, $55, Bobbi Brown.
