Let’s talk about...
Post-workout
hunger
A new study from UK’s Loughborough
University found that after running for 90
minutes most women didn’t feel hungrier
or eat more kilojoules compared to those
who hadn’t exercised.
Hmm... not convinced. When training for a 10K, I wanted food!
The researchers looked at short-term appetite suppression – it’s
possible you can get the tummy rumbles after longer exercise.
So, what’s a run-gry girl to do?Ask yourself if you’re hungry or
just rewarding yourself for hard work: a Cornell University study
found those told they were on an ‘exercise walk’ ate more
M&M’s afterwards than those told they were on a ‘scenic walk’.

Why
“If you don’t have an hour to work
out, high-intensity interval training
burns up to double the kilojoules
than steady-state cardio,” says
trainer Joey Thurman.
“Research shows that mindfulness
may curb emotional eating,” says
dietitian Keri Glassman. Apps like
Headspace will guide you through
10-min chill fests.
“You’ll look forward to working
out with a friend,” says Thurman.
Choose a strength-building sesh,
like barre or boxing, since adding
muscle can up your metabolism.
“Experimenting with new
ingredients in the kitchen can
banish boredom and keep healthy
eating on track,” says Glassman.
