ecause there’s no such thing as a typical family, there’s no set
formula for the perfect family bathroom. “Ideally, any shared
bathroom will be tailored to the needs of the people using it,”
says Daniela Santilli, bathroom business manager for Reece. That
might mean storage for everything from razors to rubber ducks,
a soft-close toilet seat to prevent maddening slams, adjustable
rail showers and tapware everyone can turn on unassisted.
“No one has a crystal ball but you can build in adaptability that
will allow your bathroom to change as your family does,” says
David Giorgio, design team leader for Caroma. And as for baths,
yes, an inset model is practical when you have young children
but go for a freestanding bath if that’s what you love.

HANDLE IT WELL
Not only do they look great, as is evident in
this bathroom in the NSW Southern Highlands,
but easy-grip lever-handle taps are a practical
inclusion for families at all stages. Astra Walker
