WHITE, DONE RIGHT
White is a tried-and-true choice for bathrooms, but the
secret to making it look really great is to add textural
interest, says Michelle Hart, interior stylist and owner
of this Melbourne home (above). “We worked an
earthy texture into the vanity, which is custom-made
in a pippy-oak veneer that shows all the grain and
knots in the timber.” Hart has used smaller hexagonal
tiles behind the vanity to introduce pattern while
keeping the walls all-white. “It helps to add another
layer, so the bathroom isn’t just a flat black and white,
but has movement and texture,” she says. Kohler

There’s no reason why a space designed specifically
for children, such as this Melbourne bathroom
(above) by Austin Design Associates, can’t be just as
sophisticated as the rest of the home. “Grey features
right through the renovated Federation home and we
felt it was a great colour to use in the family bathroom,”
says Fiona, “especially since one child is a boy and
the other is a girl.” Caesarstone’s new concrete-look
surface features on the vanity top and the doors are
two-pack polyurethane in Dulux Accord. A wall of
Antique Lattice encaustic-cement tiles from Bespoke
Tile & Stone are a nod to the home’s heritage and
energise the otherwise understated space. >
