The briefMake it family-friendly, quirky
and fun was the request the owners of
this bathroom put to Kate Harry, creative
director of Fabrikate in Adelaide. “The
client came to us with an optimistic
attitude and a request that we work in the
colour yellow,” she says. “Three children
and two adults share this bathroom so
our task was to ensure it functions well
for all members of the family.”
The makeoverRethinking the floor
plan was the first step in the overhaul of
this Adelaide bathroom. “It’s now zoned
for multiple uses so family members
can bathe, shower and use the vanity
at the same time,” says Harry. The
design utilises an understated walltile, which ties the bathing zones together
and doesn’t compete with the floor tiles.
“We had the floor tiles custom made.
They weren’t quite what we’d ordered
but it turns out that they’re exactly the
look we were after.” The white tapware
punctuates the sunny yellow and grey
palette and reinforces the fun feel of the
bathroom. “Offsetting the basin means
there’s ample space on the vanity and
a low bench extends into the shower
area, so there’s plenty of space for
towels and clothes.”
Why it works“The whole family loves
the new bathroom,” says Harry. “It’s built
around a palette that’s young and fun,
much like its owners.” #The

“I was given wonderfully broad
scope on this bathroom
renovation,” says Harry. “The
homeowners enthusiastically
encouraged me to think outside the
box. It had to function well for
a family of five, but other than
