INTERIOR
INSPIRATION
Guests at boutique
getaway The White House
Daylesford, north-west of
Melbourne, will delight in
this dreamy space, curated by
owner and interior designer Lynda
Gardener. Lush textiles, vintage art and industrial
lighting complement a charming yet modern sanctuary
in an 1850s cottage. We spoke to Lynda about her style:

What are the key aesthetic elements you’ve used? I always
start with a simple base, such as the original dark floorboards
and white walls, and layer from there. The feature pieces are
older collectables that make the space unique and individual.
Consistency is key.
What are your go-to decorating pieces? Rugs, cushions,
throws – lots of layers, always.
What is your approach to styling? Pick just a few colours
and don’t mix too many styles. Stick to a theme and carry it
throughout the house so that it flows beautifully.
Where do you find your key pieces? They were mostly
lucky finds. The mirror is from Mill Markets in Daylesford and
the club chair from an auction house in Melbourne. You can
find similar at Scout House in St Kilda.
Top tips for creating a layered interior? Don’t always follow
a formula or ratio. It’s all about following what feels right for
you. Keep all textures in complementary tones and colours,
and make sure it flows through the entire house. >
