Why textiles? I have always been passionate
about textiles. Textile design is about how we
live and tells a story; I wanted to tell my story.
Your inspiration? I returned to Sydney
after living in Melbourne for fi ve years and
remembered how much I loved the ocean.
How do you start? I begin with sketches,
then paint and draw on shells and shapes,
fi nally loading the elements into Photoshop
to create the patterns. There is more control
and a certain uniqueness created by hand
that can’t be replicated with a computer.
What have you learnt? I’ve been fortunate
to work with industry leaders in textile design.
They instilled in me different principles of the
design process, and how important it is to
collaborate with fellow designers and
suppliers who have similar visions.
What’s next? I’ve started work on a new
collection, which will be a cotton-linen line.
I’d also like to write a book about my travels!
Coquilles silk and wool scarf (above), $250.
