18 | AUSTRALIAN HOUSE & GARDEN

I absolutely loved your Top 50 Rooms feature. To come
across the October issue on a sunny Saturday was just
the creative boost I needed. It made me realise that
with imagination and effort, any space can be totally
transformed – upgrade a room and the entire house
gets a boost! I particularly loved the garden studio;
a garden, no matter how large or small, should always
be open to possibilities. For a home to be truly home,
sweet home, it mustn’t grow stale.

A dream fulfilled
I recently purchased a beautiful cottage
in the Southern Highlands of NSW, a
dream my husband and I shared for
years. He passed away before it could
become a reality but, a few years later,
I’ve finally made it happen. At times I feel
anxious thinking about the work needed
to bring a 125-year-old house back to its
former glory. When that happens, I pull
out my ideas book. It’s filled with amazing
stories on home and garden renovations,
colour themes, lighting, appliances,
furniture and artwork, all gleaned from
years and years of reading H&G. As
I flip through my clippings, I feel my
anxiety turning to excitement. I have to
thank you, H&G, for feeding me not
only the ideas but also the inspiration
to tackle my renovation adventure.

Agent of change
Last year, the thoughtful real estate
agent who sold our property gave us

a subscription to H&G as a house-
warming gift for our new place. What
an incredible inspiration it’s been!
Reading your magazine each month has
given me design ideas for a fabulous,
functional home that constantly earns
compliments from guests. Thanks for
that rush of excitement I get every time
I find a new issue in my letterbox.

Pet subjects
I love the dogs in your magazine and
every month I look forward to seeing
what breed each family has. It was
wonderful to note that your covers for
the past four months (August through
November) have all featured a delightful
pooch. Personally, I feel that our place
would be very empty without our black
spoodle, Greta, and our matching
black cat, Inka. Together, they are the
most loving and relaxed accessories
in our own house and garden.
