MY IDEAL HOUSE HG

he kerbs are in, the stormwater
drains are operational, street trees
are planted... The masterplanned
community where My Ideal House is to
be built is materialising day by day.
Crest by Mirvac in Sydney’s south-
west is yet to welcome residents but it
won’t be long before the streets of
Gledswood Hills are humming with life.
“The new community at Crest is
rapidly progressing, with civil works
nearing completion,” says Diana
Sarcasmo, general manager of design,
marketing and sales for Mirvac. “The
creation of a new community requires
significant civil and service infrastructure
work to occur below and above ground.”
Civil works commenced
in late 2015 and are
now approaching
their final stages.

community. My Ideal House is edging closer to reality.

SENSE OF COMMUNITY

Optimism grows from the ground up
when a suburb is founded, says Lara
Symkowiak, the recently re-elected
mayor of Camden Council. “There’s
a shared sense of achievement,
expectation and excitement. Families
are investing their futures in these
new communities.”
Crest by Mirvac at Gledswood Hills
falls within the Camden local
government area, the fastest-growing
region in NSW (more than 100 new
residents relocate to the area each
week). Getting to know your
neighbours is important in any
suburb, says Symkowiak, but
particularly so in a new community.
“We encourage new residents to take
part in events and programs that
promote social inclusion, to help a
community form at grassroots level.”

officially launched
H&G’s My Ideal House
design competition,
run in partnership with
Mirvac. Sydney architect
Madeleine Blanchfield
took out the $25,000
winner’s prize with a
clever, modular design (inset).
There are now tuckeroos planted out
the front and Mirvac is primed to build
My Ideal House on the Crest lot

expected to commence in early 2017.
Long before the first slab is poured,
a huge amount of preparation goes into
the making of a new suburb such as
Gledswood Hills, says Andrew La,
national housing design director for
Mirvac Design. “It’s a bit like starting
with a blank sheet of paper. We take
great care at the masterplanning stage
because we are building communities,
not just houses.” >
