says Kylie, who loves the simple pleasure of selecting a
vessel for her morning cuppa. She has collected handmade
ceramics for years. “Some women buy shoes, I collect pottery.”

PAPER BOAT PRESS STORE, ASHGROVEKylie loves meeting
customers in the store adjoining her studio and home. Year-round,
she sells ceramic vessels – many embossed with whimsical quotes
and poetry – as well as greeting tags, magnets and jewellery. At
this time of year, personalised ornaments are top sellers.

DRAWING ROOMAll the imagery on Kylie’s ornaments
is hand-drawn then made into stamps to impress on the
ceramics. “My designs are usually nature-based and
I derive a lot of inspiration from Japanese pattern-making,
oldbooksandephemera.”Mostofhertimeisdedicated
to the making process, and she regularly spends 8-12
hours a day shaping and glazing her beloved ceramics.

VERANDAH DRINKSA night owl, Kylie will often work through to 11pm
during the week. But on Friday afternoons, she likes to down tools at 5.30pm
and will often invite friends over for late-afternoon margaritas. “It’s a bit of a
regular at my place. There’s usually a cocktail on the menu, even if we invent it
