YOUR H&G

For a mum of five, an hour of peace with a hot cup
of tea is not easy to come by, but after a couple of
weeks of feeling flat and unmotivated, I finally got the
opportunity to sit down with my October issue of
H&G. And it was well worth the wait, because this
year’s selections for Top 50 Rooms are the best yet.
The issue has really inspired and motivated me to
clear away all the build-up of day-to-day clutter, and
to bring back the vision for our home that we had
when we started building two years ago. So thank
you, H&G, for a much-needed lift.

loved this month.

Budding ideas
Bursting with luscious floral innovations,
September’s H&G was a wonderful
welcome to spring. I was especially
interested to read Lisa’s editor’s letter
about the “botanical markers of a
European summer” as, like her, I’d just
returned from a European sojourn
and was looking for Mediterranean
references to decorate my new flat.
I would never have thought of using
oleander, bougainvillea, hydrangea,
lavender and olive trees together, or
placing pots of fragrant herbs by the
door, until I read the issue. Now I have
lots of ideas that will also be living
reminders of a wonderful trip.

Dream catcher
The September issue featured some
beautiful homes but I was particularly

thrilled with Designer Dream. It’s so
exciting to see a home in which the
owner has let her style and personality
shine through. Please keep these types
of houses coming! This one has
encouraged me to keep embracing
my own personal design choices.

Roll with the changes
The Top 50 Rooms collector’s issue
(October) was a real find. All the
designers on your shortlist should be
proud of what they have produced. My
husband and I are currently travelling up
the coast of NSW in our caravan but
when we get back home, I’m going to
put some of those ideas to use. You’ve
given me the confidence to embrace
change and triggered my imagination to
experiment outside my comfort zone.
