AUSTRALIAN HOUSE & GARDEN | 43

This house enjoys a beautifully open setting, with no fence between it and
the adjacent golf course, so it was critical to preserve the family’s privacy
while capturing natural light and those jaw-dropping vistas. Roman blinds
in Hartmann & Forbes PapyrusWeave jute from Milgate fit the bill beautifully.
These give more cover than sheers, says Adelaide, while lending an earthy
texture to the room and offering sun protection. In the bedrooms, ethereal
sheer window treatments are combined with fully lined curtains for
blockout and privacy.

PALETTE PLEASERS

To make the most of views to
the sea and over the golf links,
Adelaide brought the outside
in with brushstrokes of
carefully considered hues.
“The homeowners love
colour, especially blues and
whites, which are so
appropriate for a beach
house, and greens, which
reflect the golf course,” she
says. “They all help the home
snuggle into its environment
and let the eye run seamlessly
from inside to out.” Patterned
textiles, especially the bold
Shambala print by Martyn
Lawrence Bullard from Tigger
Hall (on the armchair and
ottoman) add “the fun
element and punch”, says
Adelaide, while splashes of
deep indigo help ground
the room. >
