Brateck Universal Secure
Projector Mount PRB-11S
KEEP THAT PROJECTOR TIED
TO THE CEILING.

IF THERE’S ONE hot piece of tech that
everybody wants a piece of, it’s projectors.
Small enough to fit inside a decent-sized
bag, while costing upwards of several
thousand dollars, they’re a prime target for
thieves. While most mounts simply require
the unscrewing of a couple of bolts to
release the projector from its ceiling
mount, this one uses a padlock to ensure
your projector isn’t going anywhere.
It’s a universal ceiling mount, though
will likely struggle with larger projectors
thanks to its smallish size. Yet even then, at
this price it’s an absolute steal — we’re used
to paying several hundred for similar
mounts. The fact that the projector is
secured by a padlock makes it even more of
a deal. Sure, they could simply rip it out of
the ceiling, but if it’s mounted properly,
they’ll have a hell of a time.

Kensington ClickSafe
Keyed Laptop Lock
THE ORIGINAL IS STILL THE BEST.

TO ATTACH THIS to your laptop, you’ll
first need to screw in a small locking lug to
the Kensington port on your laptop, which
comes with an included Allen key. The user
then loops the cable — made from carbon
steel protected by a protective plastic —
around their point of attachment, such as a
desk leg. From there it’s as easy as clicking
the lug directly into the lock head — there’s
no need for a key or code for the initial
attachment, it simply clicks straight in.
To detach it, a set of two keys have been
included. Make sure you register the keys
online when you buy the device; if you do
happen to lose them both, Kensington can
send out a replacement set that will work
with your specific lock. Kensington claims
the lock head has an anti-tampering system
built-in, but as we’re not exactly the world’s
greatest lock-picks, we couldn’t put this to
the test. It’s cheap, easy to use and looks
extremely rugged — just what you need
to ensure your employees actually use it.

Kensington ClickSafe
Keyed Lock for Mac
STOP MAC THIEVES IN THEIR TRACKS.

IF THERE’S ONE piece of hardware that
thieves want, the iMac is probably high on
the list thanks to its designer looks and high
price. Fitting this lock is a bit more complex
than most, as it requires a series of disks
followed by a special hub to be mounted to
the rear of the iMac’s stand. The instructions
aren’t the clearest, but IT whizzes should
figure it out in a jiffy. We should point out
that it only works with 2010, 2011, and 2013
iMacs. Given Mac users’ desire for beautiful
aesthetics, the sleek design of this locking
hub won’t look out of place.
Once the special hub is in place, it’s simply
a matter of securing the new hub to the
included security cable. This seems much
thicker than those on the other Kensington
kits, which is referred to as an ‘Ultra Cable’.
The locking mechanism easily clicks into
place without the need for a key; it’s only
when you need to unlock the machine that
one of the two included keys will be required.
And as with all Kensington products,
provided you register the product when you
buy it, replacing said keys is an email away.
