Vancouver’s own John F.C.B. Vance

(1884–1964) spent 42 years helping

to solve mysterious deaths in

British Columbia and subsequently

throughout the Dominion. The

province’s first forensic investigator

had such talent that he came to

be known as “Canada’s Sherlock

Holmes.” The subject is in good

hands with Eve Lazarus, an author

unwavering in her fascination with

Persuaded to play

a reunion in California early this

year, The Smugglers now take to a

hometown stage to coincide with

the publication of Dirty Windshields,

Lawrence’s memoir about his

touring years with the group.
