BESPOKE DESIGN

FROM CREATION

Sydney-based company Creation Audio has specialised in
bespoke horn systems for more than 15 years, building
designs based on classic drivers from manufacturers such as
Altec, Tannoy, Lowther and JBL.
The company’s latest creation is a radical three-way
design in an active bass/passive midrange and tweeter
confi guration that features professional components from
Beyma and Faital Pro. Creation Audio owner and designer
Andrew Tilsley said it took him twelve months to design
and build.
The system, which stands 1.4 metres high, uses 457mm
diameter (18-inch) Faital Pro woofers in heavily-braced
sealed cabinets crafted from high-grade European Birch ply
and fi nished in a satin two-pack polyurethane. The woofers
are powered by an 800-watt per channel MiniDSP amp,
housed in a matching Birch ply enclosure.
Midrange is delivered by an Italian-made 305mm (12-
inch) Beyma driver that takes response from the driver’s
natural bass roll-off out to 1.8kHz. The tweeter is an Air Mo-
tion Transducer that’s also made by Beyma. It’s fi tted into a
CNC’d and hand-built custom horn. ‘This tweeter extends the
response to beyond twenty thousand hertz and provides natural
yet sparkling highs,’ said Tilsley. ‘The system marries profes-
sional gear with highly attractive cabinetry to create a world-
class product, with massive scale. And with a sensitivity of close
to 97dBSPL, it’s a great match for Class-A valve amplifiers.’
