TARA LABS MUSE

SERIES
Tara Labs says it has built a cable specifically designed for audiophiles
who crave musicality in their audio system’s sound performance.Mat-
thew Bond, the Australian founder of Tara Labs, says: ‘Most audiophiles
can be categorised into two main categories—those who crave to hear every
detail possible of the musical instruments playing and those who want to close
their eyes and imagine they are sitting right in the middle of a live orchestra,
while the musicians
play music around
them. The Muse
Series audio cables
offer an opportunity
for an audiophile to
have it all.’

solid-core copper
conductors are
super-annealed,
oxygen–free,
mono-crystal, and
frequency-tuned,’ saidBoris Granovsky, of Absolute Hi End, which
distributes Tara Labs in Australia. ‘The conductors are hand-polished and
coated in proprietary liquid dielectric to prevent oxidation before insertion into
the PTFE Teflon lumen air tubes.’ All cables in Tara Labs’s Muse Series are
supplied with an HFX floating ground station system. Made by hand in
the US, a one-metre length of Muse sells for $9,995 (RRP), while the Muse
speaker cables sell for $17,150 (RRP) in 2.4 metre lengths.

AMC XIA 150

INTEGRATED

AMPLIFIER

AMC’s XIA 150 integrated amplifi er is currently the top-selling
amplifi er being distributed by Indi Imports, according to Market-
ing Manager Denise Riachi.
‘The XIA 150 has already won several awards in Europe and US,’
said Riachi, ‘and if it’s power on demand and clarity you desire, then
you need look no further for value and performance, because the XIA
150 is rated at 150-watts per channel, comes with a full three-year
warranty and retails for just $1,399, which means total peace of mind
and years of enjoyment.’
Although the XIA 150 has both bass and treble controls, both
can be bypassed for optimal sound. The phono stage design
uses audiophile grade op-amps and is claimed to have a higher
overload margin than the phono stages found on most integrated
amplifi ers. The output stage is said to be a high-current design.
‘The XIA 150 has a peak output current capability of 80-amps, so it
can drive almost any loudspeakers, yet there are no relays or fuses in
the signal path,’ Riachi told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine. Available
now, the AMC XIA 150 sells for $1,399 (RRP).

MARTEN | AMC | TARA LABS

Marten’s Mingus Quintet speakers
are now available at Melbourne’s
newest hi-fi store, Sound Gallery.
Sound Gallery might be new, but
most audiophiles will recognise its
owner, John Ong. The Marten Min-
gus Quintet is three-way, fi ve-driver
bass refl ex design that uses three
178mm aluminium-sandwich coned
bass drivers, a 127mm ceramic-dome
midrange driver and a 20mm dia-
mond dome tweeter. The midrange
dome driver and tweeter in the Min-
gus Quintet are identical to those
used in Marten’s fl agship speaker,
the Coltrane. The crossover, which
is connected to the drivers using
cabling from Swedish manufacturer
Jorma Design, is a fi rst-order type to
ensure phase coherence with nomi-
nal crossover frequencies at 137Hz

and 4kHz. As with all Marten speakers,
the Mingus Quintets are designed and
manufactured in Sweden. ‘The Mingus
Quintet bridges Marten’s Heritage and
Coltrane series,’ said Ong. ‘A full-range
speaker with deep bass and full dynamics,
it has all the characteristics of Coltrane,
which makes Mingus Quintet the very
essence of a Marten speaker, a study
in truthful sound that delivers the very
lowest levels of distortion, so its sound
is effortlessly natural and dynamic.’ If
you’ve ever wanted to hear what a pair
of $72,000 speakers sounds like, the
speakers are set up for auditioning at
Sound Gallery now.
