KII BONANZA

AT SONIC

PURITY
Sonic Purity now has the KiiTHREE active speak-
ers available for private audition sessions at its
new showroom at 30 Bignell Road, Moorabbin,
Victoria, 3189. The KiiTHREE active speakers each
have six drivers, arranged on the front, sides and
rear in an arrange-
ment that is said to
‘throw’ the sound
in one direction
only, without rely-
ing on a baffle via a
system Kii Acoustics
calls ‘Active Wave
Focusing’. ‘The wave
focusing filter marks
a complete departure
from the classical
crossover filter,’ says
Kii. ‘Instead of just
splitting the spectrum
into bands, it forces
the specially positioned
drive units to create a
completely coherent wave front that is only emitted
forward and behaves as though all of it came from
the midrange driver. Our mission was to break the
sonic mould of compact speakers. Powerful small
speakers with deep bass have been around for a while
now but none so far sounded like a big speaker. The
Three fixes that.’

KII | DENSEN | ISOACOUSTICS

ISOACOUSTICS AT CONVOY
Convoy International has been appointed as the sole Australian
distributor for IsoAcoustics isolation products. ‘IsoAcoustics has been
supplying its patented designs to the professional audio and consumer mar-
kets since 2012, during which time it has amassed an impressive number
of industry awards and accolades for its ability to deliver dramatically
improved sonic performance and its exceptional build quality,’ said Geoff
Matthews, Managing Director of Convoy International. ‘When we
fi rst experienced how IsoAcoustics isolators could transform the performance
of our favourite speakers, we could hardly believe our ears,’ he said. ‘We’re
truly delighted to be offering this excep-
tional product range to the Australian
market.’ Convoy will be offering two
core ranges of IsoAcoustics isolation
stands, known as the ‘Aperta’ Series
and the ‘Gaia’ Series.
The Gaia isolators are machined
isolation feet, supplied in sets of
four that incorporate IsoAcoustics’
patented design to provide a high
degree of speaker isolation, while
resisting lateral movement and oscil-
lations, to maintain alignment with

the listening position. There are three models, Gaia 1, Gaia 2 and Gaia
3, designed to suit speakers weighing up to 100kg per speaker, with
prices starting at $299 for a set of four.
The patented Aperta Series stands are built using aluminium frames
to create a parallelogram structure with isolators in the top and bot-
tom sections, with a built-in tilt adjustment that can be dialled-in 6.
degrees upward and downwards to optimise your speaker placement.
‘The performance and response of the stands can be tuned by managing
the shape, thickness and durometer of the isolators,’ said Matthews. ‘You
can immediately hear the results of
the stands eliminating refl ections from
being conducted back into the structure
that create bass smear and result in a
lack of clarity and openness. Using the
Aperta stands you hear the full three-
dimensional soundstage in your music.’
Aperta stands are priced from $249.

DENSEN CAST AMPLIFIER

Danish high-
end manufac-
turer Densen has
launched its Cast
amplifi er, which
it says will be the
fi rst of a string of
new products.
Densen’s
Cast amplifi er is
the fi rst Densen
product to allow
streaming and
does so by using
Google’s ‘Cast’
audio technology. ‘This will allow for the use of Tidal, which has become the de facto stan-
dard for premium streaming, but it will also allow for a myriad of other streaming software,’
said Chris Strom, of Radiance Audio Visual, which distributes Densen in Australia.
The new Cast amplifi er is also one of the smallest products in Densen’s range, being the
fi rst product in Densen’s ‘Dino’ range, all of which are half the size of previous Densen
products. ‘Densen has for years been working on streaming solutions, during which it realised
that the real challenge is not to make the Wi-Fi receiver, but to keep the software always up to
date,’ Strom told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine. ‘And from an audio point of view: avoid Wi-Fi
interference inside the cabinet and most importantly, secure superior sound quality. Out of
this came the idea of using an external Wi-Fi source, instead of installing the high frequency
receiver close to sensitive audio circuits inside the cabinet.’
The external Wi-Fi source Densen decided on was Google Cast, for which the Densen
Cast amplifi er provides a dedicated power supply, and a dedicated optical input. ‘These
provisions, plus the use of a dedicated power cord to connect the Google Cast to the Cast ampli-
fi er, are what allow the Google Cast to perform at its best, with the highest possible data qual-
ity,’ says Strom. Densen rates the new Cast amplifi er with a power output of 60-watts
per channel into 8Ω loads, and an output of 120-watts per channel into 4Ω loads. It
measures 72×220×310mm (HWD) and is available in Albino silver and black fi nishes. It
retails for $4,500 (RRP).
