Revealing the lion and tiger

quilt along them using a walking
foot. Don’t quilt Border 2 at this
stage – it will be done in November,
in Part 10.

Pin the two appliquéd felt
bushes in place over the
appliquéd lion and tiger. Machine
stitch twice along the bottom
edges of the bushes, reversing at
the start and end to fi nish these
interactive fl aps.

FLENDT – MY
ACCOLADES
& MILESTONES
2017 is going to be a big
year. I have long been
working towards my fi rst
book, and this month it is
being published. It is called
Weekend Quilting and its
publication is a dream come
true for me. Ever since my
fi rst pattern was published
in Homespun – Liberty Belle,
in November 2014 (cover
quilt) – I knew I wanted
to write a book. This was
very natural for me to do,
due to my background
profession as a home
economics teacher. Having
my patterns distributed
by Creative Abundance
was another amazing goal,
which has led to so many
wonderful opportunities to

travel and teach, not only
here in Australia but also
internationally.

CLAIRE TURPIN –
MY ACCOLADES
& MILESTONES
I struggle with this one as
I don’t put much emphasis
on prizes or perceived
success. I am much happier
with personal successes. I
took part in a contemporary
quilt exhibition curated
by Jan Mullen a few years
ago. A group of emerging
textile artists put together an
exhibition of contemporary
quilts from donated fabrics,
mainly old kimonos, silks
and wools. The quilts were
exhibited and auctioned off
to raised funds for the St
Yared School, in Ethiopia.
I had three quilts hanging,
and it was one of the most
rewarding things I have
ever been a part of. I loved
being challenged by Jan
who made me think outside
the box, and the work
produced by this amazing
group of women was
something to behold. I was
very proud of being involved
and even prouder that one
of my quilts was used on
the advertising posters.
