Where’s Townsville: Tropical North Queensland, 350km
south of Cairns.
Where in Townsville: Shop 2, 103 Mooney Street, across the
road from the Townsville Gem & Mineral Club.
Who plays host: Deborah Renner.
Worth visiting because: We have the largest range of
Japanese fabrics in North Queensland, including beautifully
textured woven fabrics direct from Japan. We stock a large
range of patterns and kits, with original designs by Deborah,
as well as bag patterns and handles from Studio Mio. We carry
Primke variegated and Finca perle cotton threads for Sashiko
and embroidery, an extensive range of batiks, batting and
backing fabrics and all the tools and accessories a patchworker
needs. Our Japanese giftware line includes kokeshi dolls,
laquerware and decorative furoshiki cloths.
What we recommend: Original BoM patterns and kits,
Christmas fabrics available all year round and weekday morning

Where’s Townsville: On the upper north coast of Queensland,
south of Cairns, Townsville is the largest northern city in

Queensland and a popular tourist destination. Our city off ers
the perfect winter escape, with sunny days throughout all of the
winter months and easy access to Magnetic Island and the
Great Barrier Reef.
Where in Townsville: 3/277 Charters Towers Rd, Mysterton. We
are on the Rising Sun intersection, where Charters Towers Road
meets Ross River Road, Bowen Road and Queens Road.
Who plays host: The store is owned and run by Carmel Gage,
assisted by the wonderful Eva Cavanagh.
Worth visiting because: We have a large range of Tilda, Riley
Blake and Moda fabric, as well as stocking Sue Daley products
and patterns from a wide variety of designers, including
children’s clothes patterns. We also off er a longarm quilting
service. We do kits, precuts and blocks of the month and sell
and service Janome sewing machines and accessories.
What we recommend: We have classes Tuesday to Friday, as
well as workshops on some weekends (with lots of tea, coff ee
and bikkies – the essentials of a good class!). We love meeting
people from all over, and hearing their stories as they wander
through our store.
