BOOK NOOK

The latest new leaves, from handbooks
to hardcovers, inspiration to instruction.

Quilt Petite by Sedef Imer, $29.99
One of Homespun’s most popular designers, Sedef Imer, has published her first book,
and it’s a beauty. It includes 18 small projects very much in Sedef’s preferred “sweetly
modern” style. Among them are mini quilts, cushions, table toppers, doll quilts,
placemats and potholders made using a variety of techniques. Although the book opens
with some instructions for methods used in the projects, Sedef’s publisher has allowed
her to work on the basis that readers will have a knowledge of basic quiltmaking
techniques, so she hasn’t had to allocate pages to covering them here – space for more
projects! There are lots of close-up photographs and diagrams to guide you through the
detailed instructions. If you’ve loved Sedef’s projects in Homespun and you enjoy making
small projects for friends and family, do yourself a favour and grab a copy of Quilt Petite.

Published by Tuva. Available in all good quilt and craft shops.

Whitework with Colour
by Trish Burr, $44.94
Trish Burr’s latest book is a ‘must have’ for
anyone interested in honing their surface-
embroidery skills and stitching exquisite
pieces for their home or as gifts. It begins
with an overview of techniques you need for
this kind of work illustrated with close-up
photos. The focus is on satin stitch, line
stitches, lattice fillings, seed stitch and long
and short stitch. While Trish’s explanations
and tips are invaluable, you probably
wouldn’t buy this book as a stitch primer –
you’ll choose it for the projects. There are 17
in all, including some classic Jacobean-style
floral designs as well as more contemporary
styles, including animals, birds and an
oceanscape. Each has top-quality step-by-
step instructions, full-size patterns, progress
photos and hints and tips. Highly
recommended. Hardcover.
