(Jeff_L) #1
running vertically. Pin the edges
together. Fit a walking foot to the
machine and machine stitch around
the edges with a^11 ⁄ 8 in allowance.

23

Join the 2^1 ⁄ 2 in binding strips
end to end with a diagonal
seam, trim the seam and press it
open. Fold the binding in half, wrong
sides together and long edges
matching, and press.

24

Using the walking foot and,
starting on one side of the
cushion, sew the binding to the edge,
mitring the corners as you go and
referring to the Binding Diagrams
on page 80 for details for joining the

ends. Finish sewing the binding
to the edge of the cushion.

25

Turn the folded edge over
to the back and hand stitch
it in place.

26

Cut along one seam of the
cushion insert, remove some
of the fi lling and trim some of the
covering. Re-stitch the insert closed
so it measures 10 x 14in. Open the
Velcro, push the insert inside the
cover and fasten it again.

VAL’S APPLIQUÉ
TIPS As some of the pieces
are quite small and similar in
shape, remove the freezer
paper one at a time as you
position each shape, so there’s
no confusion. If you’re using
synthetic felt, lower the
temperature of the iron and/or
protect the felt with baking
paper or an appliqué mat.
