trip with three small children in tow, it was
a relief for me to see their smiles and find
that the old family pieces, well worn but
much loved, looked as suited to their new
home as they did to their old. It all made
sense when I opened the April issue (Inspired

Bunny Williams: “If you love something, it
will work. That’s the only real rule.”

Out of the frame
Your arrangements of prints by Harriet and
Helena Scott (Natural Instinct, March)
inspired me to reframe my old botanical
prints in simple pine box frames. I grouped
them with a pair of old cedar mirrors and an
Art Deco sconce, and they look terrific on
the wall behind my modern red-leather
sofa.H&Ghas shown me that mixing old
with new really can look good.

YOUR H&G

H&G has been a much-loved me-time indulgence
and style tutor since I was a teen styling my room in
my own way for the first time. You’ve fuelled my love
of beautiful surroundings and pushed me to define
my personal style, from uni days in shared houses
to my first home with a white picket fence, and now
a planned living-room extension to accommodate our
playful toddler. I am exhilarated by the choices that lie
ahead. I’m certain that H&G will influence my selections
and enjoy pride of place on our new coffee table.

Architect’s helper
We are planning our much-discussed
renovation and have been asked by our
architect to write a wishlist of what we want
in each room. The task is a tad daunting
as I have millions of room styles, colour
palettes and clever storage-space ideas
from all my H&G magazines to condense.
Luckily, I’ve been able to go through my
collection and create an ideas board of
the must-have items, which really helps.
Thanks for the inspiration, H&G!

Feeling the love
Downsizing was an emotional time for my
parents – seeing their life disappear in a
clearing sale of carefully itemised farm
implements and memorabilia. A small but
important concern was that the furniture in
their old farmhouse wouldn’t suit their new
accommodation. After a lengthy interstate
