ANCIENT & MODERN
Looking every bit like a rockpool in the Kimberley, this
bronze award-winner called Emergence, designed by
SMAQ Design Collaborations, took naturalistic water
features to another level. Tonnes of yellow granite were
used to form and define the pool while plantings
included sculptural Yucca filifera and Y. australis.
Paintings of fish in ochre colours by Aboriginal artist
Lin Onus were printed on glass and then submerged to
form the bottom of the pool in this bold design, which
also incorporated lighting, misting and sound. >

‘We wanted to evoke the sense of an ancient landscape, and water

was an essential element. It helps to connect people to a landscape.

People said they loved the feeling of tranquillity in this design.’
