“Modern mirrors in an old terrace house
can give a bit of an edge and lift the
heaviness,” says Jonathon Lee. Circular
mirrors are also a great counterbalance
to the classic, squared-off architecture
of traditional homes. To hang a mirror
above a mantelpiece, position the frame
so that its lowest point is about 10cm
above the surface.
Gubi Adnet circular mirror with
leather strap, from $1100, Cult.

Round & round
Large-format circular mirrors
look dramatic when hung as
hero pieces. A smaller one
hung near the front door is
handy for last-minute
checks before you step out.

11 Interior decorator Lynn Cheong of G&C Design had this standing mirror
made up by a picture-framer for her own Melbourne home. At 1.9m high,
it’s a statement piece that’s practical as well as beautiful. A custom design,
starting at about $100 for a small, basic one, is a good way to get exactly
the size and style you want. Just be careful where you place any
freestanding mirror in a home with children.
