GQ: Mintgate blew
up on the tour of
Australia this year.
Did you secure
any ‘endorsemints’
as a result?
Faf du Plessis: No, strangely
not. I’m so surprised that no
one has contacted me over
a mint endorsement. Surely
someone should tap into this
because I believe it’s the best
advertisement you can get for
your brand. On a more serious
note, the mint controversy was
so ridiculous. We were in
Australia but it was like being in
Hollywood. h ere were cameras
every where and I became
the centre of attention. h e
Australian media is a powerful
beast and they turned the story
into a monster. It was pretty cool
for me to see how the team stood
up against it together and backed
me. h eir message was clear:
you don’t take on our captain
and get away with it. h e situation
galvanised us as a group and it
provided an opportunity to
show people how strong we are
as a unit. >>
