When a prime minister resigns, as David Cameron did last
year, they do not just lose power and office — they lose
the roof over their heads. Cue Sir Alan Parker, 61 last
Wednesday, who is a close enough friend of Cameron to
hand him the keys to a seven-bedroom £16.8m house in
Holland Park, west London, for a five-day sleepover.
Cameron is godfather to Parker’s son William and the pair
had gone on holiday in 2008 to South Africa, when pictures
of them as surf buddies did the rounds. But the tycoon, who
likes to kick off his shoes in meetings and call people “boss”,
is more than a friend in n eed to the powerful.
Parker, who once worked as a rock group manager and as
an oil rig labourer, is the chairman of Brunswick, a City PR
firm that advises more than a quarter of the companies on
the FTSE 100. He retains 50% of the £180m partnership. In
2015-16 there were assets of £33m in various Brunswick
enterprises and other operations belonging to Parker, who
was knighted three years ago for services to business and
philanthropy. 2016: £125m, 799=
