FRANCOIS-HENRI PINAULT AND SALMA HAYEK
Fashion and films

Mexican actress Hayek, 50, is set to appear in
four films this year, including the action comedy
The Hitman’s Bodyguard with Samuel L Jackson.
Her husband, Pinault, runs Kering, the luxury
fashion business built by his father, François.
The latter started at the family woodmill before
launching a business trading in timber. In the
1990s he expanded his operation, purchasing

French department store chain Au Printemps
and the Bordeaux winery Château Latour,
before handing over control of the business
empire to his son.
In 2014 Pinault, 54, and Hayek moved to
London, though the former still pays taxes in
France. Kering’s brands include Gucci and
Alexander McQueen, and it had revenues of

€12.4bn in 2016. Pinault also chairs the family
investment vehicle, Artemis. Its stake in Kering
has surged over the past year to £8.56bn, while
the Christie’s auction house, art and other
interests add £5bn. The family is worth
£13.45bn and we ascribe a quarter of that to
Pinault. We add £75m for Hayek, who earns
about £12m a year. 2016: £2.35bn, 46
