WORKING PATTERN
With MC cast on 248 sts.
Knit 3 rows.
Next Row: RS – Using CC, knit 15 sts.
Switch to MC and knit to end of row.
(To avoid a gap when changing colour,
bring the new yarn under the old yarn
before the first stitch.)

Next Row and every WS Row: WS –
knit, matching colours.
Next Row: with CC, knit 16 sts,
switch to MC and k to end.
Continue in this way, knitting one extra
st with CC on each RS row, until there
are 60 CC sts. With MC, knit to last st,
switch to CC; k1. Continue in garter
stitch, knitting 60 CC sts at beginning
of RS row and working one more CC
st at the end of the row. This creates
slanting blocks of colour at either end
of the work. These ends will become
the fronts of the vest.

Divide for Armholes
When work measures 35cm, with RS
facing and maintaining colour pattern,
k60 sts. Cast off 5 sts, k 118, cast off
5, k to end. Continue working on these
60 sts (for left front), maintaining the
colour pattern, until work measures 25
cm from beginning of armhole. Work
two complete rows in MC, and cast off.

CENTRE BACK
With RS facing, rejoin MC and knit
across central section. Continue in
garter st until work measures 25 cm
from beginning of armhole.
Work 2 more rows and cast off.
RIGHT FRONT
With RS facing rejoin yarn and work
right front, maintaining colour pattern,
until work measures 25 cm from
beginning of armhole.
Work two complete rows in MC, and
cast off.

FINISHING
Darn in ends. With RS together, join
fronts to back at shoulders, leaving a
gap of approximately 35 cm for neck.
Turn back tops of the fronts to form
a revere, and clasp with a brooch or
button if desired.
