When Laura, 40, found out she was
pregnant soon after a relationship
ended, she was thrilled – even though
the father didn’t want to be involved
in raising the child. In and out of hos-
pital in the early months with severe
morning sickness, Laura gave birth
to a baby girl, Layla Rose, in Novem-
ber last year.
To my dear little Layla Rose,
Gosh, I love us. You’ve
changed my world, my little angel, for
the better. In fact, you are my world
and I am yours. Since you were born
we’ve spent every second together. Even
when you sleep I am right beside you.
I can’t bear to be apart from you,
Layla. I take you with me everywhere.
You’ve proven to be an amazing little
sidekick, and you just seem to know
that we have no other option but
to take on whatever each day brings,
no matter what is thrown at us.
Just us two.
My little love, I am your only par-
ent. I play the role of two and I hope
that I’m doing a good job of it. Our days
are filled with love and laughter so
I think we’re doing OK. You’re happy,
healthy and loved like crazy, but as
much as I put in, you give me back in
bucket loads. You have taught me more
about life, love and happiness than
I ever could have known. You have
allowed me to unleash a strength
I never knew I had, and experience
a love I never knew existed.
You are my daughter, my heart and
soul. I’m so excited for our future, to
watch you grow up into a beautiful
lady, and be there with you every step
of the way. Near or far, I will always be
with you. I can’t wait to share my tri-
umphs, challenges and mistakes with
you and what I have learnt from them.
Most of all, I want to teach you
kindness and courage and how not to
be afraid to take a leap of faith. Because
I did, with you, and that has been my
favourite lesson so far. If I hadn’t,
I wouldn’t be writing this letter to you
today, my darling girl.
