Unless you’re Dr Pimple Popper’s
number-one fan, acne isn’t a whole
lotta fun – especially if you’re the
one dealing with it. Proving there’s
a silver lining to everything, though,
UK dermatologists have found that
acne su
erers might age better
than others. During their study, the
researchers found that people with
acne had longer telomeres (protective
caps on their DNA) than those with
clearer skin. Since telomeres protect
you against the wear and tear
associated with ageing (think wrinkles
and thinning skin), those with acne
didn’t experience these neg e
ects
until much later in life. So, the next
time you start to fl ip out over a newly
formed zit, just relax – it might be
a small price to pay for a line-free
complexion. On the other hand,
you could just hit that bad boy with
a dollop of salicylic acid and have the
best of both worlds. Wink, wink.
