year old from Brazil,
has been delighting

impromptu renditions of popular opera

aspiring singer on an Edgecliff worksite,
shone a spotlight on Oliveira when he
posted his performance ofNessun Dorma
on Facebook. Oliveira is currently studying
music and dreams of an opera career.

Theembalmedbodyof19th-century
composer and piano virtuoso Sigismond
Thalberg was recently found in the corner
ofhisfamilyvaultinNaples,havingbeen
tornfromtheglasscasketwhereithad
rested for 150 years. His great-great-
granddaughter Giulia Ferrara Pignatelli
made the gory discovery. Thieves had
broken through two sets of gates, forced
open Thalberg’s last resting place and
stolenabrassurn.SignoraPignatelli
described the scene as “gruesome”.

The2017AdelaideFestivalhasclocked
upthebiggesttakingsintheevent’s
57-yearhistory.Thedebutprogramme
of Neil Armfield and Rachel Healy took
morethan$4millionattheboxoffice
–a44percentincreaseonlastyear,
andalmost25percentmorethanthe
previous box office record set in 1992.
Attendances were up seven per cent
on last year. There were ten sold-out
shows including Barrie Kosky’sSaul.
