in the tiny Canadian port
village of Lunenburg in Nova

Odyssey Opera rediscovered
a gem when they performed
Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s
adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s
comedyTheImportanceofBeing
Earnest.The1962chamberopera
for two pianos and percussion,
which borrows freely from
othercomposers,hadonlybeen
performed twice in the 1970s.


MUSICIANS GIFT FEES TO
REFUGEES, LEIPZIG
Inagestureofsupportand
empathy, violinist Anne-Sophie
Mutter, conductor Herbert
Blomstedt and the Gewandhaus
Orchestra donated their fees
from a concert in March to two
refugee education charities.
The gift totalled €60,000 (AUD
$84,000). The concert was
devoted to Beethoven.
