CALENDAR

MARCIA HINES
The pop diva takes to the
stage in the disco cabaret
Ve l v e t this month.

Tell us about Velvet? Ve l v e t is
a very exciting mixture of disco
and circus with an extremely
talented cast. What do you love
most about performing in this
show? I get to sing some of the
songs that I’ve always enjoyed
listening and dancing to, and
I get to perform with an
outstanding group of people
each night. The show celebrates
the disco era. What did you
enjoy about that time?
I enjoyed going out with my
girlfriends and having a boogie
when time allowed. You started
your music career at 16. What
changes have you seen in that
time? Music has changed in
more ways than I can mention,
but one thing that stands out is
how great it was to buy vinyl
records back in the day. It was
great to check out the artwork
and read the credits to find out
who sung backing vocals and
produced the albums. It’s good
to know that old school albums
are coming back into fashion.
Personally, I think vinyl sounds
better than CDs. What are your
plans for the future? To keep on
keeping on. I love what I do and
that in itself is a git. What’s the
most embarrassing disco outfit
you’ve worn? There are far too
many to mention!

Catch Marcia Hines in Ve l v e t ;
3–14 May, Canberra; 17
May to 4 June, Newcastle;
