Kelly is funny and cool—the
kind of girl you wish your
brother would bring home for
Thanksgiving. For much of 2015,
she was the girl romantically
linked to infamous playboy
Leonardo DiCaprio and splashed
across the tabloids. Miraculously,
she took the attention in stride.
(She has never discussed the
relationship publicly and won’t
be doing so tonight.)
So what’s her secret to being
extraordinarily comfortable in
her own skin? Believe it or not, the
answer might be prep school—
specifically, the prestigious all-
female Greenwich Academy, in
Connecticut. (Ethel Kennedy,
Jane Fonda, and Allison Wil-
liams are fellow alums.) “A really
big part of who I am is that I went
to a school where they teach girls
to be independent, ask questions,
and speak up for themselves,”
Kelly explains, dismissing my
vision of Mean Girls in plaid kilts
and cable-knits. “It wasn’t your
normal high school experience,
where you have the jocks and the
prissy girls and the cheerleaders.
We didn’t even have cheerleaders,
and if any of us wanted to cheer-
lead, that would’ve been looked
down upon because it was like,
why would you want to root for
anyone when you could pursue
your own things?”
But despite avoiding cliques,
it’s not like Kelly blended in. “I
was 5′ 9 ′′ when I was 12. My sib-
lings would tease me and call me
big friendly or freaky giant, and
later, when I was approached
about modeling, they would joke,
‘The BFG is gonna be a model?
