1. Benzoyl Peroxide
   Great for banishing cysts, it kills bac-
   teria and reduces inflammation. It’s
   drying, so opt for a low dose, like 2.5
   percent versus 10 percent. “Studies
   show they’re equally effective,” says
   dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, MD.

2. Salicylic Acid
   A top-notch exfoliant, it’s a beta-
   hydroxy acid that dissolves excess oil
   and sebum, making it especially
   effective on blackheads and white-

   strength cream like Aczone or Epiduo.

   cases? Isotretinoin (you know it as
   Accutane), says Dr. Zeichner.
