A matte texture optically flattens lips,
w ich makes them look wider and bigger.
A d, as the colour won’t travel, you can ge
a ay with taking it to the very outer lip
edge, adding precious quarter-millimetres.
The drawback? Lip-shrivelling dryness.
S modern mattes (call them semis) add
j t the right dose of moisturising butters
i to the mix for a soft demi-sheen that’ll
p t you in mind of velvet cushions. How
plumptious is that? Try Sara Hill Lipstick in
Matte Damon, £17 (used here) [1], By Terry
ouge-Expert Click Sticks, £24.50 [2], and
I amasqua Antimatter Lipsticks, £20 [3].

Acting beauty editor
Becci tried Lip Perk
Imagine a serum-filled
pen attached to a Henry
Hoover and then run over
and around your mouth,
exfoliating dead skin while
blasting in natural rehydrating ingredients. That’s
Lip Perk, a treatment that works by helping boost
blood circulation to subtly swell lips.
Did it hurt? Not a jot. Unless you find tingly
peppermint oil painful.
Did anyone notice? I did. My husband did not.
How long does it last? Results can be seen in 10
minutes. You then get a 12- to 48-hour window to
flaunt it. Nationwide from £40; Perkskincare.co.uk

Beauty writer Lucy tried
a Laser Lip Lift
‘Laser lip plumping’ (yes,
really) uses heat to stimulate
blood flow in the deeper lip
layers, to the point where
lips increase in size by
10-15%. Having a laser beam dotted all along
my gums and then my lip line was... unnerving.
Did it hurt? When it got to my lip line, it was
a bit like a dozen mini paper cuts around my
mug. Not hell, but not painless.
Did anyone notice? Not really. But then Mum
was expecting me to resemble Pete Burns, so
that could be why. I think they looked more
plump, though, as did the rest of the beauty team.
How long does it last? Seven to 14 days. £90 at
London’s Jasmina Vico Clinic; Jasminavico.com

Beauty director Inge tried
Eudelo Lip P-Booster
So, this does include needles,
but stay with me. Dr Stefanie
Williams takes a vial of your
blood to make a serum of
platelet-rich plasma and a
very diluted hyaluronic acid, both said to boost lip
collagen and saturate them with lasting hydration

  • and shoots it into your lips. They don’t get bigger
or change shape, just regain the fullness of youth.
Did it hurt? Despite taking Panadol and being
given some numbing cream – hell, yes.
Did anyone notice? Absolutely. The swelling
made me look like a demented Jordan for 24
hours. Now, I have the lips of me, 15 years ago.
How long does it last? Four months, which
is when I’d have it again. If I could afford it.
    £645 at London’s Eudelo Clinic; Eudelo.com ◆
