Flashes of colour in unexpected
places? Yup, we’re going there

SMUDGE
IT UP
STARE-AT SCALE 1/
Want a fresh take on the
smokey eye? Giorgio Armani
international make-up artist
Linda Cantello says a hint of
electric blue adds vibrancy.
Use black kohl liner on the
top and bottom waterlines,
then plant a hefty amount
of metallic blue shadow in
the middle of the lid. Use
a small, pointed brush to
drag it along the lash line and
outwards – this elongates
eyes. Smudge shadow
underneath and dab glossy
highlighter at the outer
corners. Finish with a nude
lip like Giorgio Armani
Flash Lacquer Crystal
Shine Gloss in 109 (£28) to
make this look even sexier.

GET
SQUARE
STARE-AT SCALE 2.5/
Make-up artist Tom Pecheux
says the inspiration for this
striking yet minimalist look
came from ’50s African
dancers. After mixing pink

highlighter drops with
foundation to make skin
look flushed, he added
a ‘fashion sweat’ by
applying clear eye gloss
on models’ cheekbones.
For the statement eyes,
he cut sponges into small
square shapes, dampened
and dipped them into
black face paint (Kryolan
Aquacolor in Deep Black,
£6, works well). Stamp the
sponge just underneath the
tail of each brow or, if
you’re feeling bold, use
white paint, or do one of
each on both eyes – the
options are (almost) endless.
Be there or be square.

HIGH
LINE
STARE-AT SCALE 2/
Make-up maestro Val
Garland told us the theme
at Vivienne Westwood
was the Mediterranean

  • which goes a long way to
    explaining the light blue
    eyeshadow. “It’s important
    to keep skin minimal
    because it’ll make the
    colour pop more,”
    explains Garland. Once
    you’re happy with your
base, start on the eyes. Use
    a small angled brush with
    cream shadow (try 3ina
    The Cream Eyeshadow
in 304, £8.95) to create the
    initial shape. Then use a
    shading brush to press a
    similarly coloured powder
shadow on top to set it in
    place. Feeling rebellious?
    Swipe the colour across
    your brow bone with your
    fingertips instead. Rock on.
